On Friday 9th October, the whole school enjoyed an exciting day of STEM related activities.  Dove Marine Laboratory (who are based down on the beach in Cullercoats) brought in tanks of marine animals.  The children had discussions about all the differences between marine animals and humans and worked out how to tell the creatures’ gender.  The most exciting part was definitely picking up and holding all the slimy and spiky creatures.

During the day, all classes took part in science activities in their classes.  There were exciting experiments involving colour and designing and testing rockets.

We were very lucky to enjoy a super assembly on Chemistry in your Kitchen.  Our visitors from Newcastle and Northumbria University made ice cream just by using ice cubes and salt with milk and sugar!

The day finished with a very successful Family Challenge building bridges using only paper and sellotape or paperclips.  The hall was filled with budding (and experienced) engineers.  Well done to all our winners!
