Welcome
Thank you for taking an interest in our vibrant school.
We’re proud of the environment and learning opportunities we provide for our children; the achievements we have made; the teaching which engages our pupils and helps them to make good progress; and a curriculum that inspires our children to reach their full potential by providing a range of memorable experiences.
Our school's three main values are community, aspirations and nurture...
At Ivy Road, we CAN!
We are a COMMUNITY - individuals who are all part of the same puzzle
We are ASPIRATIONAL - growing to reach our full potential through memorable learning experiences
We are NURTURING - kind and respectful to everyone
Our school is a spacious building which includes: a large hall with a stage; a gym; classrooms; dedicated music and art rooms, a calm zone and a library. Outside, the children also benefit from large grounds in which they can play and learn. Our outside space includes: a forest, an outdoor story chair, playing fields and outside play equipment for the children to explore and enjoy – including a fantastic outdoor gym and two traversing walls. In addition to this, our Early Years unit has its own outdoor area with a climbing frame.
All of our staff are professional, friendly, approachable, supportive and enthusiastic. We take pride from our children telling us that they feel safe and cared for in our school and from parents who support the school and appreciate how well it meets the needs of their children.
We have high expectations of all of our children, as well as recognising that every child is an individual and is unique. As a result, we set challenging targets for them and they are all encouraged to reach their full potential. This is supported by a clear progression of skills in each curriculum area. Details of our curriculum for children are available on each individual class page on this website.
We retain a strong focus on positive reinforcement and recognise each child’s achievements through weekly celebration assemblies and the awarding of ‘CAN House Points’. Pupils in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 are divided into four houses named after inspirational individuals: Taylor Swift, Gareth Southgate, Frida Kahol and Walter Tull. Children earn individual points for demonstrating our school's vision and values.
Another facet of our curriculum includes guests who visit school to talk to the children about their experiences and achievements. Visitors have included: NuSTEM and NTLT World of Work . We also ensure our children’s learning is further enhanced by arranging a variety of educational school visits. For example, in the past, we have visited Ford Castle – a residential activity centre equipped with a wide range of exciting and challenging activities for young people to enjoy. These include high ropes, zip wire, the leap of faith and team challenges. Other excursions have included Gibside, Blue Reef Aquarium, Whitehouse Farm and the Centre for Life, as well as a range of sporting competitions and activities.
We value the importance of working together for the children in our care. The staff, Governors and I are always keen to hear the views of parents, carers and the community we serve; all members of staff are always available to discuss any aspect of your child’s education and general welfare.
